Dancers and drummers of the candombe tradition, united in the comparsas, train throughout the year in Barrio Sur so that, during Carnival, they can compete with other groups in the Llamadas street parades. The Carnival in Montevideo celebrates Afro-Uruguayan cultural identity, expressed through the rhythms of candombe music and dance, which connect the community to its African heritage.
